"Ummm...No" Why The Rebels Series "Finale" Didn't Finish Squat

I will admit to all of you, I have debated writing this piece. I believe my opinion may be an unpopular one. I also believe that that's ok. I was actually encourage to write it by some other fans who feel similarly. My first words after watching the finale were as in the title. "Umm...No".As you may have guessed by now, I am unhappy with how Rebels ended. It was a chance, a really great chance that they had. They had the ability to end this the way they wanted. They weren't facing a cancelation while still having a season left, like The Clone Wars. They could really hit it hard and leave us speechless. And they did, but for the wrong reasons.
They passed the buck. It was the easy way out. They killed Kanan. We all expected them to. But killing Ezra or Ahsoka just wasn't in them. It was too gutsy. Now it's the problem of a comic or novelist to finish the job and try like heck to come up with an awesome reason that, despite being alive, neither Ezra or Ahsoka helped during the height of the war.

They changed the meaning of the past. I feel like a broken record on this one. "When I'm gone, the last of the Jedi will you be." "But Ahsoka left the order and Ezra was never in it." Yes, but Ezra calls himself a Jedi on more than one occasion. "Ahsoka left". Yes, however, the accepted meaning has always been that Yoda meant any trained lightside user. I would be disappointed in Ahsoka or Ezra if they were alive and not helping. Unfortunately, we will have to wait a while for someone to fill in the gaps of where Ezra was and what Ahsoka was doing. All I have to say is, it better be good.

It felt like they were afraid. This is a new story. The Clone Wars was amazing, but we also knew how it had to end. It was in the middle of a larger story we already knew. The Rebels narrative was wide open, and I think that made them back off. Again, we figured we'd lose Kanan. But it felt like they were afraid to touch Ahsoka. She is a fan favorite, no doubt. But I need to see how her personal story ends. And I wanted to SEE it. We waited over a season to see Ahsoka again. They had built her up to bursting. And then you see her in some white cape with leku too short and call it some sort of ending? (Female Togruta leku never stop growing. Remember Shaak Ti's? And they would have been around the same age at this point.) You've got to be kidding me. It's like they've denied her something. Like someone who deserves to go out a hero and instead just melts away slowly. It's building up to a grand ending to only have it snatched away. It isn't fair, but little in life is.
For some Star Wars fans, the finale was amazing. It was a culmination of several years of investment into characters that we have all come to love and know. For others, it was a poor return on the time they had put into the show. You become emotionally invested in these characters. It can be upsetting to feel that they weren't done justice in the end. We all have our opinions, as I have stated mine here. But remember, when talking Star Wars, always be kind.
