Preparing for The Galaxy's Edge Opening at Disney World

Galaxy's Edge at Disney's Hollywood Studios is opening this month! I can't wait to bring you updates, pics and videos throughout the day. Gates open at 6am. Yes, you read that right. If you are staying in a resort, Hollywood Studios opens at 6am. If not, regular hours apply. Before you head into the park, there are a few things you'll want to consider.

Map

Before you even enter the park, take a look at the map. Walking into the land blind is not going to be the best option for finding where you want to be. Try and get an idea of what order you want to see and do in. Plan at least a bit of your day and go from there.

App

Download the Disney play app before entering the park. Galaxy’s Edge is a minefield of interactive components. With the app you can turn machines on, off, make sounds, crack codes, and even receive missions. If you want to fully enjoy the park, the Disney play app is a must.

Check The Website Before Hand

This is an odd one, but if you know there is something you are interested in purchasing, maybe check and see if the Disney website has it available. If not, you know you'll need to grab it in the park. I failed to do this once and ended up never again finding a handmade leather bag I fell in love with in EPCOT at Morocco. I'm still sad.

It's also possible to have your purchases delivered to your resort room or sent to the front gate and retrieved at the end of the day. This is one of the best perks of Disney. No need to carry large bags around the rest of the day. Just let your cashier cast member know, and they can take care of it all for you.

Charger If you think you have used your phone a lot before, prepare to be amazed. As an avid Disney traveler, I can safely say I use my phone more at Disney than anywhere else. The app takes a bunch of battery, not to mention the hundreds of photos and videos you’ll likely take. Having an external charger is a life saver, literally. If you don’t own one, Disney has dispensers all throughout their parks. You purchase one and, when that runs out of battery, you simply exchange it for a full one for free. It's a nice system, but watch your charge. These are small devices that don't hold a ton of juice. However, they are small and can be exchanged so the cost is up to you. Personally, I bring my larger one. It carries way more juice than I need and I'd rather not have to worry about it. What To Pack Florida has a heat that sticks to your soul and sets up camp. It’s oppressive, wet, and unending. After living in Florida a few years, I've learned some tricks. Make sure whatever you wear is worn in. This is not the time to pull out untested clothing. Make sure it’s comfortable, and breathes. Carry as little as possible into the park with you. Pack the essentials and try to leave a bit of room. You will buy things, and you know it. A small sunscreen bottle, water bottle, phone, charger, and cord are the must have's for a Disney day.

Talk to the cast Each cast member has their own back story that goes with the land’s story. Ask them about who they are and what they do. I’m sure they’ll enjoy telling you about themselves and the planet. Learning the language of Batuu could also come in handy. To lean into the story of the location, there are phrases that will be common in the Land.

“Hydrator” = “Water Fountain”. “Ignite the Spark” = Greeting for the Resistance

“Light the Fire” = A Resistance callback to “Ignite the Spark”

“Only the ancients know” = “I don’t know” “Til the Spire” = “Farewell”

“Good journey” = An Informal Goodbye. “May the Spires Keep You” = A Formal Goodbye

“Bright Suns” = “Good Morning”. “Rising Moons” = “Good Evening”

“On Planet” = In the Land. “Refresher” = “Bathroom”

I am beyond excited to experience Galaxy's Edge at Disney World for myself! I hope these tips and tricks help you have a more productive day. If you'd like updates the day of the opening, be sure to follow me @ForceKnowledge on twitter for hourly pics, tweets, and videos.

May the force be with you.
