Finishing Ahsoka’s Story
Where in the galaxy is Ahsoka Tano?
As we see another Star Wars tv show drawing to a close, we always want to take stock of where we are and where we’ve been. For most fans, this journey started years ago during The Clone Wars animated series. It's where we got to know Anakin and Obi-Wan on a whole new level. We got to see how the war impacted the galaxy, including the clone army that fought in it. Most importantly, we got to meet some amazing new characters, including Ahsoka Tano.
Admit it, you thought she was annoying in the movie. We all did. But, by season 2, we were all in love. We got to see her evolve from an annoying and headstrong Padawan into a thoughtful and powerful Rebel. It only seems right that we end her journey just as emotionally as we started it. So, as our series draws to a close, let's take a look at where she might be in Rebels.
I'm sure everyone has watched the mid-season Rebels trailer 20 times by now. If you haven't, spoilers ahead, so bail now! Let's start with one of the unused scenes from Dave Filoni that shows Ahsoka speaking to the Bendu.
This dialogue can be taken in many different ways. I personally believe it connects back to a line Qui-Gon says in TPM: "Your focus determines your reality." This also plays into the dangers of being able to see pieces of the future, like Anakin seeing Padme die in his dreams. By trying to stop the future from happening, he caused it. Ahsoka hears that death will result from an encounter with Vader and assumes that Bendu means herself. Death could also be rhetorical. It could merely be the death of what Ahsoka stands for or a physical change, the death of one body but the birth of another. This is all speculation at this point, so let's keep moving.
Later, we got another gift from Dave. A series of white and red stills in which we see Ahsoka guided by the condor through a water hallway and up a flight of steps. The last picture is Ahsoka walking through a circle surrounded by wolves. Since we have now met a group of wolves, we can assume they are Loth Wolves. These animals have the ability to move someone from one side of the planet to another. Perhaps they transported Ahsoka off of Malachor. Notice that the second to last picture is of Vader looking toward the ruined temple. Is he sensing her disappear?
One option is that Ahsoka has somehow become entwined with The Daughter from Mortis.
We see the 3 figures on a lit mural in the spirit world that Ezra appears to be walking in when he sees the condor. Notice that the depiction of the daughter also has a condor sitting on her shoulder. The Daughter's death gave Ahsoka life. Perhaps this is the "death" that the Bendu was speaking about, Ahsoka's transformation from one to the other.
Another option is that she herself was transformed. During the Rebels trailer that just premiered, we see a very large wolf speaking with Ezra. Notice that all of the other wolves we have seen have yellow eyes while this wolf appears to have darker, possibly blue eyes. Is Ezra speaking with Ahsoka?
My real reservation in this theory comes from a drawing Dave gave us on his birthday last year. Perhaps he knew we would speculate in this direction and wanted to give us a head's up.
So you see, we have a problem. As much as it seems like Ahsoka very well could be the large wolf, I think Dave is trying to tell us that there are 3 different entities and Ahsoka has retained independence from the other two. We just haven't seen her yet. *Sigh*
With all the tidbits Dave has given us, combined with the Rebels trailer, where is Ahsoka? If there is one thing she cannot be, it is unfinished. As one of the most beloved Star Wars characters in a generation, it would behoove no one to leave her out.
So, where/who/what is Ahsoka Tano?
